The aim of this rotation is to introduce cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetics laboratory techniques which are used for diagnostic purposes.  Emphasis will be placed on the interpretative problems and the unique "familial" aspects of genetic diagnosis rather than on the technical aspects of the testing procedures.  At the same time enough experience at the bench will be provided to develop an appreciation for the technical problems which may be encountered, and the quality assurance aspects of molecular biological and genetic diagnosis.

During the rotation abnormal cases will be explored in depth, including the presentation of data to families and physicians.
