Residents have the full responsibility for preparing and participating in autopsy conference, "unknown" conference and the other two weekly surgical pathology conferences, the clinical pathology on-call conference, neuropathology brain cutting, weekly neuropathology case review conference, journal club, diagnostic cytogenetics, the Department of Medicine Morbidity and Mortality conference, and Chief-of-Service conference. The Chief of Service conference consists of two 25-minute resident presentations of a clinical case or disease and the underlying pathobiology and molecular pathology of the disease process.

Resident participation in the many clinical conferences we hold with other departments is strongly encouraged. Pathology faculty attend each conference and are ultimately responsible for presenting the pathology but we try to have residents present, under faculty supervision, whenever possible. This occurs most frequently on subspecialty rotations such as renal pathology, gynecologic pathology, hematopathology, and cytogenetics.
