Gastrointestinal, Pancreas, and Liver Pathology

Outreach Services

As a major referral center for gastrointestinal, pancreatic  and liver diseases, Columbia Doctors has assembled a team of 7 fellowship-trained gastrointestinal and liver pathologists to provide expert, comprehensive, and accurate diagnoses for a wide spectrum of clinical problems including celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, Barrett’s esophagus and pre-malignant and malignant lesions of the luminal GI tract, pancreatic neoplasms, chronic hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and liver and bowel transplantation. Molecular testing for diagnosis of inherited GI cancers and for targeted cancer therapies are provided by our GI Pathology service. Our laboratory is fully equipped to handle fresh biopsy tissue, resections, and 2nd opinion referrals, and to provide further processing with cutting-edge diagnostic techniques when necessary.

Columbia University Pathologists is a leading provider of testing and consultation in anatomic pathology and laboratory medicine. Our fully accredited laboratories are staffed by nationally and internationally recognized pathologists with subspecialty expertise in all areas of anatomic and clinical pathology. Our department offers a wide range of diagnostic tests and state-of-the-art technology, serving physicians in private practice, clinics, and medical centers throughout the tri-state area, nationally, and internationally.

Our goals in Gastrointestinal, Pancreas and Liver Pathology are the same as for all divisions within the Department of Pathology – to provide excellent diagnostic service, to participate in innovative research, and to educate students, trainees, and colleagues.
