Dr. Piero Dalerba Named Winner of 2017 Schaefer Research Scholars Program Awards

Piero Dalerba, MD, Assistant Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology, has been named one of the winners of the 2017 Schaefer Research Scholars Program Awards. This highly coveted honor is made possible through a gift from the late Dr. Ludwig Schaefer to Columbia University, and is intended to recognize outstanding work in human physiology.
As a Schaefer Research Scholar, Dr. Dalerba will receive: 

  • a personal cash prize of $50,000 to be used at each researcher’s discretion for travel, living or additional research expenses and,
  • up to $220,000 in research support (inclusive of overhead and administrative costs) to be paid to each Research Scholars home institution

As a winner, Dr. Dalerba will also attend the annual Schaefer Symposium at Columbia University and will be recognized in a ceremony at CUMC at the end of the academic year.
